Looking for a machine that can help you fold paper but don’t want to spend a lot? You can get a low-priced folding machine that really increases the productivity in your office, church, school, mailroom, or non-profit organization. Some systems can cost thousands of dollars, but you can find a good machine for under $2,000 that can fold over 8,000 sheets in an hour.
The Martin Yale 1217A Medium-Duty AutoFolder Paper Folding Machine is a great choice and is considered a medium-volume machine. Available at Magnolia Office for around $1,200, it is rated to operate at a speed of 10,300 sheets per hour, but it is not recommended to run it at that speed for long. If you do, the machine will tend to wear more quickly and reduce its operation life. If you need to fold volumes of 10,000/hour or more on a consistent basis, you should use a machine that is rated for higher-volume than the 1217A.
Some of the great features of this machine are an output conveyor system, jam prevention feature such as a reversing switch and removable tables. It also can fold large paper up to 12” X 18”, which many similar-priced machines cannot do.
The machine can handle paper with weights from 16 lb. to 135 lb. index.
It can fold six type of folds: letter, half, z-fold, double parallel, right-angle and baronial. It is also adjustable for the first fold within a fold range of 2″ and 11 ½, and for the second fold 1 1/2″ to 5 3/4″. This gives you the ability to do custom folding.
The fully-adjustable paper guide allows you to fit the paper size you need, and the built-in conveyor produces a nice, fanned output that is easy to handle. This folder does not work well with glossy paper, however. If you need to fold glossy stock, you should look at an air-feed folder.
